Bella Game App
University College Cork - TECS-EstudyUCC
The University College Cork in collaboration with the University of Oxford and the University of Newcastle.
The project ( TECS-EstudyUCC ) aims to develop an online interactive tool which will allow us to identify children who find it more difficult to understand language than their peers and to individually tailor support to help them to overcome these difficulties. Difficulties understanding spoken language are often hidden and children’s problems may go unnoticed.
The TECS-E (Test of complex sentences - Electronic) specifically focuses on complex sentences which are essential for success as children progress through school.
For now, the game is only available for testing in the UK.

About the process:
With over two hundred examples of situations to represent, the first step was to create a base of twenty characters representing a variety of ages, genders, and ethnicities.
To facilitate visual reading and maintain attention on the characters and their animations, solid colors and simple shapes were used, with lines only to provide context and style to the backgrounds.

Bella
The character of Bella was created to guide and congratulate us as children progress through the game, providing introductions and guidance at every stage.
